KVLT has a fun and educational outing scheduled for the late afternoon and evening of Saturday, October 22. The outing will be a visit to see the night sky at the Charlotte Amateur Astronomers Club’s Riggsbee Observatory near Forty Acre Rock.
The outing will begin at 5:00 p.m. with an opportunity to view the sun through the club’s solar telescope. After viewing the sun, we will tour the grounds and have a picnic dinner in their picnic shelter, so bring a picnic supper. When the sky turns dark we will be treated to an incredible opportunity to see the night sky. This outing will be limited to 30 individuals. To get to the observatory from Lancaster, take Hwy. 903 South for approximately 5.3 miles; turn left onto S. Potter Road( SR 29-36); take the first right onto Taxahaw Road(SR 29-123) and go approximately 8.8 miles on Taxahaw; take a right on Bloomwood Drive(dirt Road). The observatory is ½ mile on your left.
