The last speaker in the 2016 KVLT Speaker Series is Dr. Chester DePratter, Research Associate Professor at the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at USC in Columbia.
Dr. DePratter has spent a major portion of his career tracing the routes of Spanish explorers across the southeast and has been a lead excavator at Santa Elena, the 16 th century Spanish Capital on Parris Island, South Carolina. He also played a key role in the discovery of Charlesfort, the 16 th century French settlement also on Parris Island. Dr. DePratter’s lecture will describe his 40 years of research on the Santa Elena site with a focus on recent discoveries. The talk will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Carole Ray Dowling Center on Hubbard Drive on the USC-Lancaster campus. Plan to join KVLT for what promises to be one of the highlights of our 2016 Speaker Series. The lecture is free and open to the public.
