Nitrolee History Hike
On Sunday, November 12, the land trust will sponsor a hike in Great Falls to the remains of the Southern Electro-Chemical Company or the Nitrolee Plant as it became known. The hike will be lead by KVLT Executive Director, Barry Beasley. KVLT is now the owner of this property on Fishing Creek. This plant was built by James B. Duke and William States Lee on the banks of the creek and was going to use an experimental technology to create nitrogen, which was desperately needed in the manufacture of fertilizer. The plant was completed in 1911. Come visit this beautiful property on Fishing Creek, see the ruins and learn the history of this fascinating, but short-lived facility. We will meet at 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the electrical substation on the right on U.S. 21, just after you turn off of Hwy. 200 after crossing the bridge below the Fishing Creek Dam. The hike will end around 4:00. The hike is limited to 30 people. Call the office (803-285- 5801) or email Barry Beasley at email@example.com to register or for more details about the hike.
